Free2Move puts customer experience at the heart of its business. The mobility brand owned by Stellantis, is enhancing its service in the US by integrating Invers car sharing technology into its fleet. Utilizing CloudBoxx from Invers, Free2Move offers customers swift and convenient digital vehicle access. The operations team gains reliable connectivity, real-time vehicle data across the entire free-floating fleet, and seamless integration with the company’s existing technology infrastructure and damage management solutions.

Siegen/Washington, December 19th, 2024 – In line with its vision to become the global one-stop-shop mobility marketplace, Free2Move offers a comprehensive range of services, including free-floating car-sharing, short-, medium-, and long-term rentals, subscription services, and parking options. The company is committed to building a unified platform for all its services. This requires technology that ensures reliable, 24/7 operations for free-floating car sharing in Washington and beyond. “We want to offer the best possible user experience in free-floating car sharing,” says Clemens Schoenberger, Director of Operations Europe & North America at Free2Move. “With the new Free2Move app now available for our US customers, we have achieved a milestone at the user front-end. With CloudBoxx from Invers, we add even more performance to our service: fastest access for our customers, reliable connectivity and real-time data for our operations team.”

Free2Move started car sharing in Washington in 2019, expanding into Portland in 2021 and later into Denver, Columbus and Austin. Following the acquisition of Share Now in 2022, the company focused on integrating Share Now’s technology into its systems. This included enhancing the customer-facing app and upgrading back-end technology for real-time fleet management and efficient operational processes like damage management. Additionally, the team worked to improve vehicle availability and services, addressing technology and vehicle-management issues. In early 2024, Free2Move withdrew its fleet of mostly Jeep Renegades from all U.S. cities except Washington, D.C., to reset its technology and operations systems. “Running car sharing profitable at scale requires most reliable dedicated car sharing technology”, says Bharath Devanathan, Chief Business Officer at Invers. “The rental that never happened is the worst-case scenario we want customers like Free2Move to protect from. Together with many car sharing operators globally, we have developed proven technical solutions for any details of the car sharing business and operations.”

Free2Move believes that the convenience of free-floating car rentals in urban areas can significantly drive its success. Executed well, it becomes a differentiator: having a car available just 300 meters away can revolutionize mobility services. In 2025, the company aims to expand further by increasing its fleet from around 10,000 vehicles to 15,000 and eventually to 20,000. Free2Move also plans to extend its services to more cities across Europe and the US. Currently, Free2Move car sharing is available in 16 cities, including Berlin, Munich, Paris, Rome, and Washington, D.C.
