Car sharing marketplace and P2P service provider Getaround has chosen Fleet Hawk from Invers to further enhance the protection of its commercial fleet customers’ cars. Fleet Hawk is the first software solution specifically designed for theft detection in the car sharing industry. Powered by data from CloudBoxx car sharing telematics, Fleet Hawk equips Getaround’s professional fleet customers with a tool to detect theft attempts in real time and respond quickly and efficiently.

Siegen/Paris, March 6th, 2025 – Getaround is Europe’s largest car sharing community of private and commercial car owners, with a fleet of up to 72,000 cars worldwide. Like many car rental and shared mobility operators, some professional fleet operators on Getaround’s platform in certain cities or areas have experienced theft attempts. Reasons for these attempts might include the fact that the fleets are often homogenous, comprised of specific and popular vehicle models. In addition, they are branded and clearly identifiable as car sharing cars, without owners near them. As the leading connected car sharing platform in Europe, this context motivated Getaround to further enhance the protection of their clients’ vehicles, leading them to implement Fleet Hawk from Invers—a solution they carefully selected to provide maximum security for their B2B customers.

In the event of a theft attempt, every second counts and prompt police intervention can prevent dangerous illegal joyrides or total asset losses. With Fleet Hawk, fleet operators receive instant warnings for tampering, thefts, and towing to keep their cars safe. When a suspicious incident triggers an alert, fleet managers can easily investigate using the Invers UI or access all data via API to automate their incident response workflows. “Far beyond just tracking the position of a car, Fleet Hawk helps Getaround accurately and reliably detect suspicious incidents from a continuous stream of vehicle data, monitoring the situation and notifying operators when necessary”, says Margot Burkel, Head of Connect Operations at Getaround. “It automatically classifies events as either illegal access or towing to avoid false alarms. This classification is crucial for our fleet operator customers and our dedicated safety team to respond appropriately and provide the most secure service for our clients.”

In order to deliver reliable results and keep false positives to a minimum, Fleet Hawk tracks equipped cars, for example, by first using accelerometer data that detects unusual impacts and shocks. These are combined with contextual information such as positional data or the ignition status, so the solution can determine whether someone is attempting to access the car illegally or if it’s being towed. In cases of towing, fleet managers can promptly remove the towed car from their booking system until the car has been recovered from the impound lot. In case of a theft attempt, they can involve the police immediately and provide them with valuable information which has proven to discourage attempts over time. “We tested the solution with one of our professional fleet customers and experienced very promising results”, Margot Burkel continues. “In fact, during the testing period, the operator and our safety team received only relevant alerts, allowing for swift action. Thanks to the joint efforts of our Safety Team and the use of this tool, we were able to quickly involve the police and successfully track and retrieve vehicles when needed.”

Since Getaround has been using the CloudBoxx from Invers for many years already, they can activate the Fleet Hawk feature on any of their CloudBoxxes, as it’s a software-only product. No additional hardware installation is required, reducing effort and downtime. “Our mission is to develop technology to efficiently solve issues that keep fleet operators awake at night”, says Bharath Devanathan. “We are excited to build this partnership with Getaround in order to contribute to the development of connected carsharing in the safest way possible.”  After successfully completing the testing phase, Getaround has begun rolling out the feature, making it available to thousands of vehicles.
