Hyre, the largest car sharing company in the Nordics, is using CloudBoxx through the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) installation method to expand its car rental services across Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. Hyre equips circa 2,500 vehicles covering more than 100 models, including a significant electric fleet with digital, keyless rental technology. The OBD solution allows for rapid, plug-and-play telematics integration across diverse fleets and locations, streamlining fleet scalability without requiring technical staff on site.

Siegen/Oslo, October 21st, 2025 – Hyre, the Nordic region’s largest car sharing company, is using CloudBoxx from Invers as the company takes on the traditional car rental market. Worth over €15 billion in Europe alone, traditional car rental has operated in a similar fashion for a long time. With its “Car Rental 2.0” offering, Hyre aims at redefining the business by offering fully digital, keyless rentals for car sharing in urban use cases, replacement car needs from dealers and workshops, as well as airport travelers. In all three business segments, reliable connectivity and access to relevant data from the cars is key.

“Delivering 24/7 digital access, reliability, and compatibility across a diverse and electrified fleet is the differentiator for future car rental operations,” said Nils Petter Nordbø, CEO and co-founder of Hyre. “That’s why we’ve chosen Invers’ robust, flexible platform. Their technology allows us to quickly deploy new vehicles. This is important both for our own operations but perhaps even more so for our replacement car partners where we currently work with more than 15 different dealership and workshop networks across numerous locations – often without onsite technical staff.”

For Hyre, one of the key challenges is to guarantee always-on connectivity to a diverse and dynamically changing fleet. The operator runs a fleet of circa 2,500 vehicles with over 100 models, including a large and growing electric fleet.

Easy installation through OBD

An important element of Hyre’s technology partnership with Invers is the adoption of Invers’ newly released OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) installation method. This plug-and-play capability, integrated into Invers’ market-leading CloudBoxx hardware, allows fleet operators to equip vehicles with telematics in just minutes, without specialized technical staff or invasive installation. The OBD method is especially beneficial for dealership partners, rental stations, and fleet operators looking to rapidly scale across multiple locations or brands with minimal operational disruption.

“Our OBD installation is compatible with over 600 vehicle models, covering both traditional and electric vehicles, providing broad flexibility vital to highly diverse and electrified fleets like that of Hyre and its dealer network”, says Alexander Kirn, CEO of Invers. “Operators can mix OBD and deep-integration CAN installations in the same fleet, with all vehicles being fully equipped for reliable, automated rentals.”

This new approach halves installation times, supports small and decentralized fleet operations, and helps Hyre rapidly infleet vehicles to meet surging demand, all while maintaining data depth and system reliability.

By adopting Invers’ hardware and software, Hyre can provide:

  • Seamless 24/7 pick-up: Essential for airport operations and urban users needing instant access at any hour.
  • Broad compatibility: Proven integration with over 100 models, including cutting-edge EVs from multiple providers, supporting Norway’s role as Europe’s EV front runner.
  • Dealer- and fleet ready: Enables rapid, plug-and-play installation (including OBD-based solutions) for dealer partners across the Nordics.
  • User-friendly experience: No rental counters or key hand-offs—everything is powered through Hyre’s award-winning app, from booking and digital unlocking to automated billing for tolls and refueling.

The partnership solidifies Hyre’s leadership in the next wave of shared mobility, as car sharing expands from urban markets into airports and B2B fleet applications, delivering new value to customers and partners previously locked into inflexible, traditional rental agreements. “Invers is a front runner in automated vehicle sharing and sets an industry benchmark for reliability and scalability,” added Nordbø. “Their proven track record and deep expertise in electrification and fleet diversity make them the ideal partner for Hyre’s ambitious growth journey.”
