Invers OEM Integrations enables hardware-free Tesla car sharing

With Invers OEM Integrations, operators can now add Teslas to their fleets and operate basic car sharing features without installing dedicated car sharing telematics. Tesla’s API already provides hardware-free connectivity, but Invers enhances it with the car sharing specific functionality needed to make it truly sharing-ready. After a one-time authorization of the Tesla API, operators can instantly onboard any number of vehicles and access all relevant data points and commands required for seamless fleet operations.

Siegen, October 1st, 2025 – With the concept of connected cars gaining momentum, OEM APIs get into the spotlight. They promise to offer a simple gateway to connect to vehicles and enable all kinds of digital services. Invers has been investigating the potential for car sharing for some time, resulting in Tesla as the first API to be provided as a fully car sharing ready interface through Invers OEM Integrations. Once authorized, a single step enables operators to onboard any number of Teslas, whether one or one thousand – instantly. Each vehicle operates basic car sharing functions just like a CloudBoxx-connected car, with no workflow adjustments required.

Essential data points at reduced costs and effort

The integration brings clear benefits for fleet operators: lower costs by eliminating additional hardware, faster fleet onboarding and offboarding, and less downtime since vehicles no longer need to visit a workshop. All essential data points and commands required for car sharing are available directly through the vehicle – from location, mileage, and door status to central locking – along with valuable extras such as charging state, adapter information, and even seatbelt usage.

From sharing-capable to sharing-ready

What makes this possible is Invers OEM Integrations, which transforms the Tesla API into a sharing-ready solution. While the Tesla API is designed for connected services, running a professional car sharing fleet with it requires overcoming some relevant challenges. Invers draws on years of expertise in car sharing operations and OEM APIs to handle these complexities on behalf of operators. For example, Invers optimizes data requests to avoid high costs from unnecessary API calls, ensuring operators only access what is truly needed. While vital data points like mileage, state of charge, and position are updated in real-time, things like tire pressure warning indicators are requested less frequently, for example once every few hours, to keep costs low. In addition, Invers optimizes vehicle wakeups: Tesla vehicles automatically enter into a sleep mode after periods of inactivity, which can slow response times. Invers ensures consistent performance by managing these behaviors behind the scenes. At the same time, Invers enables Guest mode at the start of every rental. This protects critical settings on the vehicle from being changed by end users. Simultaneously, this allows operators to automatically delete sensitive information like navigational history at the end of each trip.

Car sharing expertise meets OEM APIs

Providing and operating sharing-ready OEM APIs requires deep, specialized expertise to turn complex, often nuanced APIs into the robust solutions car sharing operators need to thrive. “Our team here at Invers has been working with OEM APIs for more than five years, always with the mission to develop the most advanced technology to make car sharing work”, says Alexander Kirn, CEO of Invers. “We evaluate APIs carefully against criteria such as data availability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness always through the lens of a car sharing operator. With Tesla, we see the first OEM API that is truly suitable for professional car sharing operations and a promising signal for the industry’s future.” For operators, the experience of operating a Tesla through Invers OEM Integrations is seamless: Teslas are controlled and monitored through the same commands and data structure as CloudBoxx-equipped cars, so no changes to existing booking software or workflows are necessary.
