Automated Rentals Replace On-Site Staff: How YouTaxi Enables Reliable Car Sharing in Rural Areas

Company Background

YouTaxi is a mobility platform built by the software company Tobit.Software, active in Germany’s Münsterland region since April 1, 2026. The name says it all: alongside car sharing, YouTaxi’s vehicles can also be used for flexible transport services.

The platform allows a wide variety of vehicles to be integrated into the sharing system and digitally provisioned and managed. The fleet has grown to 32 vehicles, all Leapmotor T03s so far and picked up more than 1,700 registered users along the way.

Local businesses help fuel that growth. Retailers, tradespeople, and hospitality operators can join as fleet partners, branding vehicles with their own look, earning rental revenue while picking up free advertising exposure as a bonus.

To keep the fleet running, YouTaxi also relies on their own community. Users take care of charging, refueling, and washing the vehicles and get a voucher toward their next ride in return. This means YouTaxi needs no operational staff of their own.

Problem

In rural areas, vehicles are scattered across many small locations and see far fewer bookings per day than their urban counterparts. At that level of use, staffing people to hand over keys or handle tasks like cleaning or refueling just doesn’t add up financially.

Car sharing in rural areas therefore needs reliable technology and a digital access solution that eliminates key handover and largely digitizes most of the operational work. Only then can users unlock the cars on their own, whether to drive, refuel, or clean them.

Solution

Tobit chose INVERS for YouTaxi’s telematics since they were already using the CloudBoxx for their own pool vehicles. Keyless vehicle access was one reason, but reliable, always-on connectivity was also a decisive factor.

On top of that, INVERS offers a developer-friendly interface with access to all relevant vehicle data. The YouTaxi platform uses that API to communicate with the CloudBoxx in real time, pulling all fleet condition data into one clear dashboard.

That data also includes user driving behavior. INVERS Driving Analysis evaluates telemetry such as speed, acceleration, and braking, then generates a driving score for every trip. When a score flags risky driving, YouTaxi can identify irresponsible drivers and, if necessary, exclude them from the platform. This is especially useful when negotiating with local businesses that want to print their advertising on vehicles. After all, no partner want “their” car racing through town and damaging the brand.

Implementation

It took YouTaxi less than four months from idea to launch. The team nailed down the concept in December 2025, started development at the end of January, and the platform went live on April 1.

This pace was possible because Tobit could build on their own Chayns platform, which has handled login, payment processing, and vouchers since 2012. The integration with INVERS also went smoothly for the development team.

Results

The CloudBoxx‘s keyless access technology is the foundation of YouTaxi’s community model. Because users can unlock vehicles themselves via smartphone at any time, the barrier to getting actively involved is lowered. Still, there was initial skepticism about whether users would really charge or wash vehicles that weren’t their own. That skepticism turned out to be unfounded: younger users especially have taken to these tasks, with no staff needed on-site at all.

The YouTaxi team is happy with how the first five months have gone, and the numbers back it up:

• More than 5,400 bookings
• Over 70,000 kilometers driven
• Monthly booking numbers up 40% from April to July 2026
• Approximately 99% of all submitted charging jobs completed successfully

INVERS Driving Analysis has also proven its worth. YouTaxi has removed a few irresponsible drivers from the platform. At the same time, good drivers with a good driving score earn extra platform credit.

Thanks to the CloudBoxx’s telemetry data, we barely see anyone mishandling our cars anymore.
